The Toast...what could possibly go wrong???
What could go wrong????? A LOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!
Your friend is getting married. This is a life-changing (and name changing) event that should not be taken lightly! The toast is your time to celebrate your friend and her spouse, their soon-to-come adventure and your friendship. Sounds easy enough, right? Well it's not! You listen, and you listen well - the toast is CRUCIAL. It can be wonderful, OR it can spiral out of control...quickly!
We have given our fair share of toasts, and we can honestly say that we have hit it out of the park a few times, and bombed a few times. Here are a few of our favorite formats for a memorable, crowd-pleasing, and MOST IMPORTANTLY bride-pleasing toast.
1- Share a funny anecdote
How did you meet? A blast from the past (be kind). How did she tell you about her groom? There are a million topics. All in all, find something that is funny and innocent. We have gone back to an old email that announced this "hot guy she met at a bar", blown up an old picture from Middle School for a now and then, and even quoted an old yearbook note.
2) Slideshow
We would leave this to the family - but if no one steps up, you can always do a slideshow. Pictures from the past - a few with braces and glasses, pictures of the new couple and maybe even a few videos from loved ones. Add music and BOOM - its a real masterpiece.
3) An inspirational Quote
There are a MILLION out there - pick one, read it and cheers. Its easy, safe and sure to conjure up a few tears. If you are a little nervous about the toast, this is a GREAT way to show your support.
Moral of the story - liquid courage can end badly. Try to keep yourself to a 2 drink minimum, smile, toast and get off the stage in one piece. We know you can do this!
And always remember - It's not about you!
